Why elongated, why now
An elongated stone draws the eye along the finger, so the hand looks longer and slimmer. Carat for carat, an oval or pear also shows a larger face-up area than a round, which means more presence for the same budget.
Lab-grown diamonds make the bigger silhouettes far more attainable, and clients are using that headroom to go bolder on shape rather than simply going up in carat.
How to choose
For ovals, look for a length-to-width ratio between 1.35 and 1.50. Pears look most balanced around 1.55–1.70, marquise around 1.85–2.10. You can filter by shape in the diamond search and check the L/W ratio on every stone.
A tapered claw or hidden-halo setting keeps the outline crisp; three-stone settings with pear side stones add width if you want a fuller look.
